Suppose you have to take a screenshot of the desktop, maybe for showing a software error to the developer or just for recalling some important events. You could, of course, use the Print Screen feature that comes with Windows and then paste the captured image into Paint, but this process is lengthy and in the end, it may not produce the results you are expecting. Furthermore, in case you have to do a lot of capturing, this method becomes useless. A much better approach to this problem would be to use the Capture Assistant software.

The program practically allows one to capture the whole desktop or certain portions of it, any way he wants it. The software requires an average computer configuration in order to run in best conditions. The user can have any Windows version installed, including Windows XP and 7.

Capture Assistant doesn't actually have an interface, as it places an icon in the system tray when the user clicks on its icon. Clicking on the icon at any time allows capturing any portion of the screen using a special cursor. One can also use the configurable hot keys for capturing. After the desired portion of the screen has been selected, a small window will be displayed, from which the user can preview the captured image, he can add text, for personalizing it, and can save it in one of the many graphical formats supported by the application.

One can also directly print the captured image, without having to save it first, thus saving a lot of time.

Hot keys can be used for a more convenient and simple capturing process. These keys can be freely configured from the software's Settings section. Using this part of the program, one can also set the program to start together with Windows and can also choose one of the three languages available for the interface.

Pros

It allows capturing the desktop in a very intuitive way, by simply clicking on the program's icon in the system tray. Besides that, it allows capturing the entire desktop or only a certain portion of it. Furthermore, captured images can be saved as graphical files, can be previewed or printed. What's more, the program allows hot keys to be used in order to capture the screen, offering the possibility to freely modify these hot keys.

Cons

The program doesn't have an actual interface and this may not be appreciated by advanced users. Capture Assistant is a really nice substitute for the Windows default capturing utility.
